Post about Honda owners

Question:

Someone posted this message a while back saying that Honda owners are Republicans and VW owners are Democrat. Well I heard something like this once as well but I don’t know how much validaty there is and if other autos attract other parties also? Tom

Response:

That was really good and it is quite accurate from the people I have seen driving these cars too! I am curious why so many lesbians like Subarus though? I used to work in a Hospital with many nurses that were lesbian (what else is new!) and they frequently drove subarus, its so strange. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> That party stuff is boring…here’s the "rest of the story": > Acura-richer ricers > BMW-red-light-running yuppies > Buick-old bankers & dentist > Cadillac-70 year old country club members > Chevrolet-construction workers > Chrysler-60 year old bingo club members > Corvette-follically challenged, gold chain wearing, mid-life-crisis, pot bellies > Dodge-wannbe big rig truckers > Ford-farmers > GMC-social climbing former Chevy owners > Honda-poorer ricers > Hyundai-welfare recipients > Infiniti-wannabe Lexus or Acura owners > Isuzu-Joe’s cousins > Jaguar-BBC fans that don’t drive after dark > Jeep-"active lifestyle" pretenders > Kia-ineligible welfare recipients > Land Rover-SUV snobs (without a clue) > Lexus-Toyota snobs > Lincoln-80 year old yacht club members > Mazda-folks that wanted a Honda or Toyota, but didn’t have the money > Mercury-50 year old VFW members > Mitsubishi-folks that wanted a Mazda, but didn’t have the money > Nissan-people that remember the Datsun good car years > Oldsmobile-undertakers > Plymouth-retired preachers > Pontiac-American ricers > Saab-eccentric college professors > Saturn-middle class "plain white bread" suburbanites > Subaru-lesbians > Toyota-consumer reports readers > Volkswagen-college students > Volvo-tree huggers > <remove tongue from cheek-insert foot in mouth>      ;-)

That’s ridiculous.  I’d take a Q45 over an LS430 or RL any day of the week, regardless of cost. — Mike Smith There are perhaps 5% of the population that simply *can’t* think. There are another 5% who *can*, and *do*. The remaining 90% *can* think, but *don’t*. — R. A. Heinlein

Response:

i know, very inaccurate assumptions. I have been a honda fan since the age of 7 and wouldn’t choose any other car other than a honda if i was rich or poor. (poorer ricer? give me a break!). jo

Martina Navratilova got endorsements/sponsorhip from Subaru. so did a few LPGA players. i remember there was a Subaru tv commercial that featured all of them. maybe it’s a regional thing. but the butch lesbians in Southern California tend to drive trucks or Mustangs. the femme lesbians drive BMW’s and other sporty/posh cars. — rich – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > That was really good and it is quite accurate from the people I have seen > driving these cars too! i’m not so sure about political affiliation. but i think cars are beter identified with social groups. just like the previous post from *. of course, that’s all toung-in-cheek stereotyping so it really shouldn’t be taken too seriously. :-) — rich – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Someone posted this message a while back saying that Honda owners are > Republicans and VW owners are Democrat. RepubliKKKans steal so much cash that they wouldn’t be caught dead in a Honda. It makes them look cheap and honest.

another serious point… from a marketing perspective, the gay demographics is an excellent target audience. most are full time professionals with above-average income. that means more disposble income to spend on consumer products and durable goods. i think Subaru did their homework. :-) — rich – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I’ve mentioned to my wife that I’m a lesbian happily trapped in a male > body…    ;-) > Seriously, > Besides the Navratilova and LPGA connections, Subaru has actively > advertised in gay/lesbian venues and sponsored other things targeted at > that market segment.  They really do have a high percentage of gay/lesbian > drivers, from those efforts….besides their predominate straight > customers. > There’s lots on the web, and in the car industry, about Subaru’s > "targeted" marketing efforts, and how some other manufacturers have taken > some to the same ideas to other distinct groups.  Really just a form of > "niche" marketing.

Isn’t it "My name is Donna"? > Chevrolet El Camino  - I am leading a militia to overthrow the >                        government

Naah, that would be a F-350, not a wimpy half-car! > Honda Civic – I have just graduated and have no credit

Wouldn’t that be a Kia? > Pontiac Trans AM   – I have a switchblade in my sock

Or "I am a Saudi college student" > Volkswagon Beetle  - I still watch Partridge Family reruns

Or "I bought this dang thing in ‘69 and it’s still running!" > Volkswagon Microbus  - I am tripping right now

Well, I have one and I was tripping, that is if "tripping" means driving all over the place! The family and I made over 2800 miles in the last three weeks through Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and California.  Lotsa fun! > Volvo 740 Wagon  - I am frightened of my wife

Anyone remember the episode of "Night Court" where the courtroom was filled with pregnant women during a storm?  After one woman described in painstaking detail her plans for her future offspring, Bull looks at her and says "You drive a Volvo, don’t your?"  Later on after going into labor, she looks at her husband and screams "I don’t want a Volvo, I want a Trans-Am!

This is probably true just from observing others, but frankly I would never buy a Subaru. The only thing I liked was about the 4 wheel drive they offer in all cars, but the prices are too high for these car in general and the reliability is questionable. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> another serious point… from a marketing perspective, the gay > demographics is an excellent target audience. most are full time > professionals with above-average income. that means more disposble > income to spend on consumer products and durable goods. i think Subaru > did their homework. :-)

BZZZ!! Wrong, my political views (at least nationally) are more akin to the Republican party and I drive a Honda.

Dunno.  Around here Republicans are usually either rich people who drive more expensive cars, or farmers who drive pickup trucks.  Democrat union supporters drive American-made cars.  Hondas seem to be pretty evenly distributed.
