Hidden Warranties

Question:

Does anyone have any information about hidden warranties on 1996 Cavalier(blown head gaskets). Is there a website in regards to hidden warranties? Thanks in advance. Greg Before you buy.

Response:

I think there was something where an owner could buy a engine warranty for like 50 bucks.  They also did cover the head gasket on some engines.  Has the dealer taken your VIN and checked to see if your car was involved? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Does anyone have any information about hidden warranties on 1996 > Cavalier(blown head gaskets). Brav,     A Technical Service Bulletin doesn’t mean the problem is under warranty, or gives you a extended warranty. It is to provide the technician with information as to the problem and how to repair.  It may give them charge back instructions to the factory as well.     Not that I agree with the manufactures, knowing of a problem with their products and not covering repairs.  But it happens all the time in ALL industries.     One thing to remember is that everything made today is for the investors and not the consumers.  Look back at all the large massive safety issues of the past. At the corporate level it came down to pennies on the unit. The "bottom line" is the issue for them.  Let us know how this turns out. Good Luck Brav, Terry  http://hubyspontiac.tripod.com/

They gave you some good links. On the actual intake leak.  I had this happen to my 96 and posted it about 2 months ago to see if it was common and boy was it ever.  Seems like I had 5 or 6 responses with the exact same leak in 5.7 vortec’s. I don’t think that it is listed on a TSB (technical service bulletin) but you might check.  Took mine to the dealer for repair (out of warranty) and it was $297 US. K.

Does anyone know of a site that contains hidden warranties for vehicles. I own a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado 5.7 litre Vortec with 80000 km (50000 miles). It started leaking anti-freeze from the intake manifold gasket. It is a 6.2 hour job to repair plus $150.CDN for parts. Big bucks for a truck with so little mileage. I contacted GM of Canada and they told me I was out of luck. But perhaps one of you can direct me the hidden warranty sites out there. Thanks, Barv

bring up the exact tsb number and watch their faces turn red.  if alldata does not have the exact tsb numbers listed, there should be another big tsb site on the internet which does cover these tsb’s in greater detail, but i currently do not remember the address of this site. anyone able to refresh my memory?  i seem to remember it being a sort of government site.
