1964 chevrolet truck

Question:

: I am currently restoring a 1964 long wheel base chevrolet truck.  I need : to know if the carrier bearings on the drive shaft are pressed on at the : shop or if they can be removed at home with regular tools.  Thanks! : Steve Had a ‘66 3/4 ton Chevy, replaced the carrier bearing also.  It can be done at home.  Put the drive shaft in a vice, make sure to clamp on the welds.  Take a hammer and cold chisel and work the bearing off the end of the splines being careful not to hurt the splines. First time I took it to a machine shop and watched them, said "Hey I can do that".  Then second time I did it, and also got the guts to replace the pinion bearing on the rear end which was causing the carrier to go bad. So cheack the pinion while you are at it. I miss my Chevy. mike
