I’m sorry I was confusing crud with crude. But really what is exactly low-quality crude oil? I would think any impuritities would be removed in the cracking process. I’ve never heard of U.S. gasoline containing sulfur. I would think if it did if would gum something up after awhile. > What I said was that US gasoline is made from low quality crude oil, very > high in sulphur content, but it’s cheap, so not may people care,
I do know that Propane and possibly natural gas contains high amounts of sulfur. It is put there so if there is a leak you can smell it. Are you sure you are not referring to Propane instead of gasoline? > want to talk to someone who does care ? I’ve never heard of this. Sulfur destroying an engine. My Father owns a 92 BMW and it has run fine on US gasoline. He’s also got a 76 Chevrolet truck which is supposed to use leaded fuel but has been running on unleaded fuel for the past 10 ten years.

Sorry, tell me where I said US gasoline was crude, its never said anything nasty to me ! What I said was that US gasoline is made from low quality crude oil, very high in sulphur content, but it’s cheap, so not may people care, want to talk to someone who does care ? Huh? How do you figure that? I’ve never had any problems with gasoline here in the United States. I have heard that gasoline in England is low-octane crap. Don’t know about Australia , I’ve never been there. I’m curious as to how you call our gasoline crude? I decided one day to change the fuel filter on my car which had about 30,000 miles on it. After removing it I decided to backdrain it just to see if anything was in there. All that came out was gas, no dirt specks or anything. I could have put it back on and went another 30,000 miles.

Take a few things into consideration. Propane tanks are HEAVY! How much room do you have in the trunk (boot) to spare for tank mounting? Have you checked your local auto-parts dealers for kit availability? What local vehichle codes apply? In Texas, USA, we have to register the vehichle as using alternate fuel. (Or used to.) Are you going to keep and drive the car long enough to re-claim your original investment? I have no idea what a gallon of gasoline costs in the UK. In my local area unleaded regular is around $1.08US at the moment. Is propane that much cheaper than gasoline in the UK? If propane isn’t a great deal cheaper, it might not be economical to convert. Anyway, like the other person told you, unless you are an excellent mechanic in your own right, leave the installation to the professionals, which in and of its self will add greatly to the overall expense. I don’t know about pounds Stirling in the UK, but dollars in the States are hard to come by.

I looked into this a few years ago because I thought it was a neat idea. It’s true that engines that run on propane are cleaner and more effecient but there is no reason to at this moment. Unless we have another oil embargo or the EPA actually starts to take away our old classic car’s because they don’t meet current emmision standards then there is no reason use propane. So Vote against Al Gore if he runs in the next election!!! Even if it’s for Ross Perot. Ross is crazy but not as crazy as Gore! It’s an expensive conversion. Gasoline is cheap (for the moment anyway). Posted using public news sever : goliat.c3.hu Try it, it’s free and allows posting.

In Australia about 50 percent of vehicles run on GAS, as opposed to PETROL ( gasoline ). As for the price of gasoline, only cheap in America where they use the low quality crudes that the rest of the world burns as junk. In my opinion, conversion to LPG is best left to a professional, you really don’t want to suffer the consequences of a mistake. — Brett Anderson BMW and ASE master technician http://www.bestweb.net/~bretta/
