brakes on 2000 K2500 truck

Question:

Hi all, Hoping you can answer a question for me.  Just purchased a 2000 K2500 pickup.  In the past, all I’ve owned are Jeeps.  In the Jeeps the brakes are almost instantaneous and the pedal doesn’t go down much at all (at least on the Cherokees or Wranglers I’ve had in the past.)  I know the Chevy has ABS on this model, but the brake pedal seems very soft and has quite a bit of travel when I step on it.  The brakes work fine, I was just wondering if this is the norm for Chevy trucks (at least newer ones?). Thanks, Paul

Thanks, Paul Paul….. but what YOU consider "travel" and "soft" after driving the Jeep….may just be a different feel from "make" to "make" of vehicals… so…. have them inspected…just for piece of mind. Most places do it for free…while u wait One piece of advice..make sure you get the oportunity to look at the brakes while the tech has the tires off ( a walk through) and have them explain any problems they suggest repairing.  Don’t simply say "do it" ..tell them you have to discuss it with the wife first…. You want to be sure the repair is going to address your concern….and not simply replace "worn" pads or shoes that may last another 6 months or so… So use your common sense when the guy gives you the "walk through" and go home and "diagnose" what he told you..and see if YOU think what he explained will actually get rid of the "symptom" of your complaint. Don’t just get a brake job…if you don’t need one yet.  And believe me..a lot of places will suggest repairs that are not needed yet. repost if you need to after the inspection and get a second opinion. good luck …… Nubbs

Hey Nubbs, Thanks for the info — will do, you might be right on "travel" and "soft" — I’ve only driven Jeeps for the last 10 years, so I know I don’t have much to go on.  Will post a follow-up once known, :) Thanks again Paul
