Chevy S-10 Tranny Help
Question:
9/16 deep socket and a swivel GM uses those moronic ’stud/bolt’ combo’s for ALL the bell housing bolts, needed or not the bolt part takes a 9/16, the nut that goes on the stud part takes a 13 mm such is progress, but I’ve got a drawer full of ‘em, cause I use a 3/8 Grade 5 wherever there is nothing on the ’stud’ – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Did my 89 4.3L 700R4 4X4 last year. > Didn’t touch a body bolt, and can’t imagine why anyone would need to. > > I hear that I have to remove the body from the frame

Not exactly. Unless I’m mistaken that idea comes from the 4.3L/700R4 trucks, where it’s easier to reach the top bellhousing bolts if you remove the front two body bolts, loosen the rest, and lift the body slightly for clearance. From what I’ve read that’s not totally necessary but can make the job easier. The 2.8L though, that I’m not sure. I’d imagine that you have room to get in there.
Response:
just did one in an 86 blazer and didn’t touch any body bolts. Use an 18mm wrench for the top two bell housing bolts and swivel sockets for the rest. Not a terrible job. Good Luck. LKN4SNO
